Transpersonal Crises

Courtenay Young is also an established and respected transpersonal psychotherapist, specializing in working with people in crises and ‘Spiritual Emergencies.’

"For 17 years, from 1986 to 2003, I was the resident psychotherapist, living in the intense educational and spiritual community atmosphere at the Findhorn Foundation. I found myself working (as a psychotherapist )more and more transpersonally and increasingly with people in transformational crises and what became to be known as “Spiritual Emergencies,” – a phrase coined by Stan Grof. I also helped to organise the Findhorn Foundation’s 1989 Psyche & Soul Conference. I presented at a conference on Spiritual Emergencies in Monterey in 1989 with Stan Griof and Arnie Mindell.
I did some training modules with Stanislav Grof at Findhorn and experienced his Holotropic Breathwork techniques, though I have never used (and would never use) these techniques in psychotherapy. I became a Regional Co-ordinator for the Spiritual Emergence Network in about 1989 and joined the Association of Accredited PsychoSpiritual Practitioners, a UK-based Transpersonal Psychotherapy organisation and member of the UKCP, for a while in 1997. If you want more information about these types of transpersonal psychotherapies, click here or here
I have written extensively about this type of work (see Articles page), given workshops, lectures and training seminars in Europe and the USA, and these transpersonal aspects form a significant part of my general psychotherapy work - even occasionally within the NHS!
I am (spasmodically) working on a book entitled 'When the World Changed' for and about people who are in or going through transformational crises and have just completed a Handbook for Working with People in Crises. For more details, click here."
